Activity:
Shape review

Activity:
Alphabet song

Activity:
Bathtub stickers

Purpose:
Increase understanding of spoken and written word

Purpose:
Learning a pattern, memorizing a song

Purpose:
Fun with patriotic colors and shapes

Setup:
Pattern #1, crayons/markers

Setup:
Music on tape or CD if child is not familiar with it.

Setup:
Craft foam in red, white, and blue, kid scissors.

Directions:
See if child can correctly identify all of the shapes. Let them color in the worksheet as you talk about things that have that shape (you can find circles on car wheels, a stop sign is an octagon, your table or desk is a ____)

Directions:
Sing through the song together. What if you sang "A,B,D,E"...would that be right? Why not? You left out the letter "C" - the song has specific words and to sing the song correctly, you have to sing the words in a certain order and tune.

Directions:
Draw star shapes on the foam (trace a cookie cutter if you want to). Let child cut the shapes out. When wet (like in the bathtub) these shapes will stick to the shower walls. They won't leave a mark and they peel right off.

Setup:
20 red beads, 3 small cups (apple buckets), Pattern #2

Setup:
Pattern #4

Setup:
Computer

Directions:
Identify the red beads as apples. Cut out the 2 tree shapes from the pattern. Explain that you're going to "pick" the apples and count how many you get. Dump some on each tree. Have child "pick" each apple and count it as it is pout into the apple bucket for that three. How many apples in the first bucket? How many apples in the second bucket? Count them all...how many? So what happened when we added __ (1st bucket) to __ (2nd bucket)? We ended up with 20. We added the two buckets together.

Directions:
Look at the map. That is called the "United States of America." There are a lot of states, each with their own name. But they are all part of the same country. We have a poem that people say with their right hand over their heart to show how much we appreciate the country we live in.
I pledge allegiance to the flag             Of the United State of America        And to the republic for which it stands One nation, Under God, indivisible   With liberty and justice for all.

Directions:
Computer time is listed each week in the Hands on Homeschooling kindergarten version. There are no lesson plans provided for this segment (I don't know what type of computer you have or any other party of your setup). This is simply a time for you to spend time with your child at a computer so that they can gain a better understanding of how to use it properly. You can go to the library or a friend's house if you don't have one in your own home.
